Bruce’s Beach began in 1912, when Willa and Charles Bruce bought beachfront property in Manhattan Beach and built a resort that welcomed Black visitors at a time when segregation and discrimination limited access to many coastal spaces. Local officials then used racially motivated actions, including eminent domain, to take the property in the 1920s, destroying what had become a thriving Black seaside community. Nearly a century later, California and Los Angeles County took steps to return the land to the Bruce family, recognizing the injustice and making Bruce’s Beach a powerful symbol of both Black exclusion and restitution. • 100% combed and ring-spun cotton (Heather colors contain polyester) • Fabric weight: 4.2 oz./yd.² (142 g/m²) • Pre-shrunk fabric • Side-seamed construction • Shoulder-to-shoulder taping • Blank product sourced from Nicaragua, Mexico, Honduras, or the US Disclaimer: The fabric is slightly sheer and may appear see-through, especially in lighter colors or under certain lighting conditions.
