The statue that stands over Rio de Janeiro is one of the most recognized images in the world. This rendering returns to what the historical record actually supports — a Black man from North Africa with locs, bearing the features of the people he came from. White supremacy required a different image and spent centuries making sure that image stuck. This one goes back further than that.
